Loire Atlantique 2

Version française

Two views of the same oven in a small hamlet. Loire Atlantique. France. The oven is about 200 years old. The bake chamber is completly outside the house, the loading opening and avaloire traverse the house wall, alowing the loading opening to be flush with the interior surface of the kitchen wall. The reasons for this form of construction are: to save space in the kitchen, to be oporational in summer - (the oven cannot cause the kitchen to become too hot when it releases its thermal charge from the mass). The ovens' avaloire is directly beneath the chimney, making conection to the chimney relatively simple.

A chapel in the same hamlet, across the street from the house with the oven.
