Communal Bake House

english version
Communal Bake House

A communal oven and its bake house. Until the last world war most French villages had a communal bake oven, located in the centre. The ovens would be fired once or twice per week, and the whole village bake on these days. Now, if existing at all, the ovens are either completely neglected or as in the case of this one, fired only on special occasions e.g. public holidays or Christmas.

Drome France.
